Driver's Training (behind the wheel) for Teens

In Car Driver Training

In Car Driver Training is the behind the wheel portion of the training process. Each lesson is two hours long and we offer pick-up at your home, our office or School Pick-up (Click Here for School Pick-Up locations ).  At Safety First, we have developed a structured curriculum for our behind the wheel lessons. They are geared towards safety and thoroughness so that you’re teen will be ready to handle themselves on the road.

We have broken the lessons out as follows:
  • Fundamentals of driving
  • DMV drive test preparation
  • Freeways
  • Canyons
  • Defensive driving
  • Accident avoidance techniques and thought processes
  • Evasive maneuvers (e.g. sudden stops, swerving to avoid objects in the road)
  • Emergency procedures

Our Vehicles
Safety First uses late model Toyota Yaris and Nissan Sentras.  All of our vehicles are equipped with a passenger side brake for the instructor so they can stop the vehicle if needed.  Our airbags and other safety features help keep our instructors and teen drivers safe.

Scheduling of Driver training lessons
Safety First conducts driving lessons 7 days a week from 7am to 10pm.  Once you’ve completed driver education and passed your permit test, you can start your In Car driver training.  We recommend that once your teen starts the driver training program, you try to schedule lessons about every month except for the last lesson.  Leave the DMV drive test preparation lesson so it can be scheduled the same week as the drive test. This will give enough time to practice with your parents or other adult drivers while not stretching out the lessons so long that the student forgets what was learned in the last lesson.
Please bear in mind that while we strive to make everyone happy, sometimes it can take a while to schedule your driver training lesson. Safety First is very selective about instructors we hire and we don’t skim through lessons or take shortcuts like some other driving schools. Depending on your location and availability and the location and availability of your instructor, there are occasions when it can be several weeks before a driver training lesson can be scheduled. Remember, you have to hold the permit for at least six months before you can take the drive test so if you cannot get on the schedule for a few weeks, it won't affect the date you can get your driver's license.

We are proud to have a diverse staff of instructors and can offer
Spanish & Farsi speaking instructors as well as female instructors on request
